Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. LOUIS MARX, of the firm of Bachman & Marx, clothiers, McKeesport, is a native of Alsace-Lorraine, where he was reared and educated. For several years he held the position of clerk and collector in the leading banking-houses of Strasburg and Paris, and in 1874 came to America and located in Huntington, Ind., where he was a clerk in a clothing-house two years. From there he went to Philadelphia; in 1878 came to McKeesport and was clerk in the clothing-house of Joseph Haber until the death of the proprietor, in 1883. He then managed the store for one year, and in March, 1884, purchased the business and took as a partner Max Bachman, since when they have had a large and successful trade that is constantly increasing. Of Mr. Marx it can be truthfully said that he is a live and enterprising merchant and a worthy citizen.
