Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. Warner & Co.   These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. LEANDER GILBRAITH MURRAY, farmer, post office Hites, was born July 4, 1847, in East Deer township, son of Bartram and Evaline (Gilbraith) Murray (see sketch elsewhere). Mr. Murray was married, in 1869, to Katie, daughter of John and Sarah (Lawson) Tanger, who came from Lancaster county, and to them have been born ten children: Evaline, Edward A., William Charles, George Ellsworth, Leander Blair, Howard John, Harmer Denny, Edith, Edna and Delia. After marriage Mr. Murray went to Clinton, Iowa, where he farmed for two years; then returned to East Deer township, and two years later moved to his present farm, which was originally settled by his grandfather, consisting of more than two hundred acres. His people were among the early settlers here.
