JOSEPH HICKMAN, farmer, post office Herriottsville, was born in this county in 1839, a son of John and Sarah (Park) Hickman, and grandson of Peter Hickman. Joseph was born and reared on a farm; was educated at the public schools of this township, and has followed agricultural pursuits through life. He was married, in 1871, to Mary A., daughter of Gabriel and Mary Ann (Ross) Rowley, of this county, and five children have been born to them: Sarah Park, John Rowley, Eva Abigail, Mary Anna and S. Heber. In 1868 Mr. Hickman purchased his present farm of 220 acres, a valuable tract of land under a high state of cultivation, and underlaid with coal. Mr. Hickman is a member of the Presbyterian Church; politically a republican.
