JONAH MATHIAS, roller, McKeesport, was born at Rumney, South Wales, Jan. 4, 1838, a son of David and Margaret Mathias. He was reared in his native county, and first came to America in 1857, locating in Wheeling, Va., where he resided until 1860, and then returned to Wales. He came back to the United States in 1872, and located in Allegheny, where he worked as a heater until 1877. He then removed to McKeesport, where he has since been employed as a roller in the United States Tin-Plate works. Mr. Mathias is a thrifty and enterprising citizen, and has accumulated considerable property. He has contributed toward the growth and development of the city by erecting several dwelling-houses, besides the handsome residence in which he lives, on Mathias street, named in his honor. He is a member of the Welsh Congregational Church of Pittsburgh, and is a republican.
