JOHN ROEHN, baker, McKeesport, is a native of Germany, born Feb. 24, 1848, a son of Philip and Christiana Roehn, who came to America in 1867, and settled in Pittsburgh, where the father, who was a weaver by trade, resided until his death. They were the parents of seven children: Christiana, Louis, John, August, Lizzie, Nicholas and Philip. The subject of this memoir was reared in Germany, where he served an apprenticeship of four years at the baker’s trade. Coming to this country in 1866, he worked in Pittsburgh as a journeyman baker five years, and in 1871 embarked in business for himself on the South Side, where he did a successful trade until March, 1882. He then settled in McKeesport, where he has since carried on the same line of business with marked success. He is now the owner of five stores and nine dwellings in the borough. Mr. Roehn was twice married; first to Teresa, daughter of Leibold Graol, of Pittsburgh, and by her had three children: August, Minnie and Albert. His second wife was Minnie Werrink, of Pittsburgh.
