Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. JOHN KNOX SIMPSON, station-agent at Verona, was born in Manor, Armstrong county, Pa., July 7, 1853, and is the son of John and Mary Jane Simpson, the former a native of the same county, and the latter (whose maiden name was Simpson) of Indiana county. His grandfather, James Simpson, came from Ireland, and settled on a farm near Rural village, Armstrong county, about 1800. John Simpson began the clearing for a house on his present farm in Manor township in 1840. John K. remained on this farm until the day he was of age, when he took charge of the telegraphic instruments at Falls Creek. Clearfield county, Pa., on the Allegheny Valley, railroad, having learned their use by evening study. In 1875 he became night operator and ticket clerk at Parker, and two years later was promoted to agent’s clerk. He took charge of Verona station Oct. 1, 1879. Mr. Simpson is a member of the U. P. Church, S. of T., R. A. and Jr. O. U. A. M.; he is a republican, and served as school tax collector in 1887. He married, Dec. 11, 1878, Margie E. Fellows, who died in 1885, leaving two daughters: Alta Naomi and Mary Jane. Mr. Simpson was afterward married, May 17, 1888, to Eva Lucretia, daughter of John R. Cribbs.
