Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. JOHN ALLEBRAND, farmer, post office McKeesport, a son of John and Margaret Allebrand, was born at Chorhesen, Steinau, Germany, in 1833, and with his parents emigrated to America and located at McKeesport in 1842. They had four sons: Conrad, Nicklous, John, Philip; and one daughter, Elizabeth. Philip enlisted in the army, Co. I, 63d P. V., and during three years’ service was promoted to first corporal. He was killed at the battle of Petersburg. His father died during that year, and his mother in 1861. In 1854 our subject went to California, where he was engaged in butchering, and was part owner of a good producing gold-mine. After six years he returned to McKeesport, and in 1860 married Rachel, daughter of William Nicolaus, of McKeesport. He then engaged in butchering until 1878, but in 1880 removed to a farm which he now owns in North Versailles township, and has since been engaged in agricultural pursuits. Mr. and Mrs. Allebrand have six children: Charles W., Margaret, John N., Louisa, Fredericka and George A. Charles W. married Lida, daughter of James Michaels, and located in Colorado, where he is engaged in mining. Mr. Allebrand is a member of the F. & A. M., Alliquippa Lodge, No. 375. He is a Presbyterian and a republican.
