GEORGE C. SMITH, farmer, post office Castle Shannon, was born Sept. 9, 1841, in Allegheny county, Pa. His grandfather, Robert Smith, came from east or the mountains, and reared a family of four boys and six girls. Of these William, the father of George C., was born in 1812, and is now a resident of Washington county, Pa. He married Sarah H., daughter of George Cunningham, and became the father of eleven children, only four of whom attained maturity, viz.: George C., Mrs. Adeline Bailey, Daniel W. and Anna B. George C. married Nancy A., daughter of John McRoberts, and they have six children: Richard L., Eleanor J., Sarah H., John F., Ida and Willie. Mr. and Mrs. Smith are members of the U. P. Church. He has been a successful farmer; he is a republican.
