C. P. MAYER, merchant, Bridgeville, was born in this county in 1857, fourth son of the nine children of Casper and Catherine (Decker) Mayer. Casper Mayer, a coal-miner, came to America in 1832, followed his occupation for many years, but has now retired from active labor, and with his wife resides in Mifflin township. The subject of this sketch worked in the mines from the age of twelve years, and is, and has been since 1880, superintendent of the mines for his father-in-law, Mr. Schulte. He located at Bridgeville in 1879, and in 1880 married Philomena, daughter of A. J. Schulte, a successful coal-dealer of this county, and two children have been born to them: Frank C. and Charles M. Mr. Mayer has been in his present business since 1886, under the firm name of Mayer & Schulte. He was appointed post master in 1887; is a member of the Catholic Church; politically a democrat.
