He and his wife, Martha Welsh, are the parents of six children: Alexander, Ellen B., Mary, Thomas M., Sarah E. and John. Our subject was educated at the Witherspoon Institute. He clerked for many years in a store at Etna, and since severing that connection has been superintendent of the Allegheny Salt company, limited. Politically he is a republican, and has been a member of the council. In April, 1887, he was elected justice of the peace, filling that office with efficiency. He is also a member of the A. O. U.
