Below is a family biography included in The History of Brown County, Ohio published by W. H. Beers & Co. in 1883.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. CHARLES OURSLER, farmer, was born on Eagle Creek, in Brown County, Ohio, March 21, 1809, and was raised on a farm. He followed the river for thirty years, mostly as a pilot, part of the time on flat-boats and part of the time on steamers, his first trip being in 1827, when but eighteen years old. He was married, August 25, 1835, to Mahala Howland, by whom he had one child, James, who was killed at Georgetown July 11, 1860, by the premature discharge of a cannon, which he and others were loading. Our subject was married the second time on June 11, 1842, to Margaret Jones, by whom three children were born, viz.: John F., Sabrah Jane and Henry. Mr. Oursler was elected Sheriff to fill the vacancy caused by the death of D. W. Applegate, in 1857; re-elected in 1858, and at the expiration of his term, settled in the northern part of Clark Township, where he still resides. He has filled several offices in the township, is a consistent member of the Christian Church, a Mason and an Odd Fellow; honest and upright, kind to all, he only needs to be known to be loved and respected.
