Silas A. Hoover, who keeps a livery and feed stable at Seymour, Mo., was born in Webster County, near Seymour, February 1, 1859, and is a son of Jesse and Amanda A. (Cross) Hoover, who were natives of the “Old North State” and were there reared and married. They moved to Missouri in 1854, settling on a farm, where they reared their family, and here Silas A. Hoover grew to manhood. February 28, 1878, he was married, in Douglas County, to Miss Martha Ellen, a daughter of William Carrick, who was formerly from North Carolina. She was born in North Carolina, and there resided until fifteen years of age, when she came to Missouri with her parents, and settled in Douglas County. After their marriage they farmed for seven years, and then moved to Seymour and engaged in the livery business, in which he has been quite successful. His business was established in 1885, and he is now the owner of two good stables, and commands a lucrative patronage. He is a member of the I. O. O. F., and he and wife are consistent members of the Baptist Church, and the parents of the following named children: Ida S., Daniel A., Amanda E., Mary E. and William S.
