John H. Hartley, educator and farmer, was born in Webster County, Mo., on the 4th of April, 1864, and received a good education in the public schools and at the Southwest Baptist College. After completing his studies he engaged in the profession of teaching in Webster County, and has followed that occupation for four years. Almarinda Wommack became his wife on the 4th of December, 1886, and their union has been blessed in the birth of one child, Sophia A., an infant. Mr. and Mrs. Hartley are members of the Baptist Church, and she is a daughter of Wilson Wommack, and was born, reared and educated in Greene County. Mr. Hartley is a son of R. B. and Elizabeth (Jackson) Hartley, who were born in North Carolina and Tennessee, respectively, the former of whom came to Missouri with his father, Jesse Hartley, at a very early day. He grew to manhood, and was married in Webster County, and is still a resident of the county, engaged in farming. He served in the State Militia during the greater part of the late war.
