Below is a family biography included in The History of Webster County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

James W. Fuson was born in Union County, Ill., on the 31st of December, 1861, and in 1869 located with his parents in Wright County, Mo. He received a common-school education, and when about eighteen years of age entered a drug store in Hartville as clerk, which occupation he followed for two years. He then spent about two years as a traveling salesman, but in 1884 located at Seymour, and engaged in the hardware business in company with P. S. Wilks, the style of the firm being Fuson & Wilks. Mr. Fuson afterward purchased Mr. Wilks’ interest, and the firm is now known as J. W. Fuson & Co. Mr. Fuson erected his present business house in the fall of 1886, and carries a large and choice line of heavy and shelf hardware, also farming implements, harness, saddles, etc. He was married here on the 12th of June, 1887, to Miss Tempa S. McMahan, a daughter of W. T. McMahan, whose sketch appears in this work. She was born, reared and educated in Webster County, and is the mother of one daughter, Opal W. Mrs. Fuson is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and Mr. Fuson is a Master Mason, and is Senior Warden of his lodge. He is also city treasurer, and is considered one of the enterprising and successful young business men of the county.
