Reuben Harmon takes rank with the most enterprising and progressive farmers of Washington County. He is a son of Jonas and Catherine (Woolford) Harmon, both natives of Virginia, who came to Washington County in 1839. The father was a farmer by occupation, which occupation he followed until his death, which occurred in 1863, the mother having died in 1857. Reuben Harmon was born in Ohio, August 5, 1832, and was reared in Washington County, Mo., on a farm. He early showed a taste for mechanical pursuits, and worked for a time at the blacksmith’s trade, being also handy with wood-working tools. His farm contains 220 acres. In 1853 he married Miss Vemetta Kimberling, a daughter of Rinard and Frances (Peters) Kimberling, natives of Virginia, who settled in Washington County, in 1827. Mr. and Mrs. Harmon have a family of six children, viz.: Julia (the wife of W. N. Hughes), Lena (who married Andrew Jenkinson), John C., who married Maggie Glover; Mary L. (now Mrs. John Summers); Benjamin F., who married Susie Summers, and Maggie.
