Below is a family biography included in The History of Washington County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Alexander D. Jamieson is the son of John and Hannah (Williams) Jamieson, both natives of Virginia. At the age of fourteen the father left home and apprenticed himself to a stonecutter, and afterwards worked throughout the Southern States, being a fine workman. When a young man he came to Washington County, and was here united in marriage to Miss Williams, who bore him three children, two now living. In connection with his trade he engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was a Democrat in politics, and both he and wife professed religion. She died in the prime of life, but he lived to be sixty-six years of age. Alexander was the eldest child, and was born in 1846, near Caledonia; he was reared on a farm and received a limited education. At the age of eighteen he began for himself as a farmer, and has followed that occupation ever since. In 1879 he married Mattie Settle, a native of Washington County, born in 1849. Mr. Jamieson lives on the old homestead of 156 acres, and he and Mrs. Jamieson are members of the Missionary Baptist Church. Mortimer C., the brother of Mr. Jamieson, was born and reared in Washington County, and has followed a variety of occupations. He is a well-informed man and very fond of books. He is a Republican in politics.
