G. W. Jordan, sheriff of Putnam County, Mo., was born in Davis County, Iowa, February 10, 1854, and reared in Appanoose County, Iowa, and graduated from the Moulton Normal School. He taught school a few years, and then moved to Putnam County in the spring of 1881, and engaged in the clothing trade at Unionville four years with Jordan Pullian, afterward conducting the business alone two years. He was elected to his present office in November, 1886. He is now engaged in dealing in fine stock, and makes Clydesdale stock a specialty. He bought the first imported horse ever brought to Putnam County in the spring of 1884. In 1882 he was married to Mamie Lockman, a native of Centreville, Iowa, and a granddaughter of Col. Drake, of Centerville. The grandfather of our subject, Aquilla Jordan, was of English parentage, born in Bedford County, Va., where he was married, and finally died in Indiana. The father of G. W. – Samuel - was born in Bedford County, Va., in 1818, and married in Indiana, to Juretta Bunten, a native of Hendricks County, Ind. They moved to Iowa in an early day, and the father is now living at Moulton, the mother having died in Iowa, in 1860. Samuel Jordan represented Appanoose County two terms in the Legislature; he is a minister in the Christian Church. Of the three sons and four daughters, all of whom are living, born to this union of Samuel Jordan and Juretta, our subject is the fourth child and the only resident of Missouri. He is a member of the I. O. O. F.
