Below is a family biography included in The History of Osage County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

Dr. Lorenz F. Biesemeyer, a physician and surgeon of Westphalia, Osage Co., Mo., is a native of Warren County, Mo., and was born April 28, 1857. His parents were Frederick and Sophia (Krone) Biesemeyer, both natives of Germany. Frederick Biesemeyer, who was born in 1809, was a shoemaker in his early life, but later turned his attention to farming. He immigrated to the United States in 1833, and first settled in Warren County, Mo., where he resided until about 1854, and then spent the following year on a farm in Franklin County, when he returned to Warren County and engaged in farming until his death, which occurred in 1871; his wife was born in 1822, and of their eight children, seven are now living, viz.: H. L. K., a cabinet-maker by trade, and a resident of Warrenton, Mo.; Johanna, wife of George Bartholamous, editor of the Warrenton Volksfreund; Emil, a blacksmith of Everest, Kas.; Valestine, also a blacksmith of Everest, Kas.; Lydia, wife of Henry Dunker, a painter of Holstein, Warren Co., Mo.; Frances, wife of Guy Brown, a resident of Hiawatha, Brown Co., Kas., and Lorenz F. The latter lived with his parents until fifteen years of age, when he entered the Wesleyan College of Warrenton, Mo., which he attended six terms. He then taught school for three years in Warren County, at the expiration of which time he went to the St. Louis College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he studied medicine three years and received a diploma. In 1885 he took a post-graduate course in the same college, and April 20, 1885, began the practice of his chosen profession at Westphalia, where he has since been actively engaged, and has built up a large and lucrative practice. July 20, 1887, he married Mrs. Antonia Westerman, who was born May 3, 1866, and is a daughter of Bernard and Catherine Westerman. They have one child.
