Below is a family biography included in The History of Newton County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. William P. Hazard is from the grand old State of Pennsylvania, his ancestors having settled in Philadelphia at an early period. George W. Hazard, the grandfather of William P., came from Philadelphia, and settled on a farm in Huntington County, Penn. He was a soldier in the War of 1812. His son, George W., Jr., was born on his father’s farm in Washington County, Penn., and here grew to manhood. He married Miss Barbara Curfman, and to them were born four children: William P., Philip C., George N. and Mary A. Mr. Hazard was a prosperous farmer and a black-smith by trade, also the owner of about 350 acres of land. He was a member of the North Protestant United Brethren Church, and died at the age of ninety years. William P. Hazard was born in Huntington County, Penn., October 16, 1826, was reared on a farm and learned the carpenter’s trade. He was married in his native State in 1853, to Miss Minnie Baker, daughter of William Baker, of Huntington County, Penn., and the fruits of this union were four children: Elizabeth A. Clarenda J., Charles W. and Mary B. Mr. Hazard rented a farm in Pennsylvania for some time, and then moved to Illinois in April, 1866. Three years later he came to Missouri, settled on Sarcoxie Prairie, and in 1876 he purchased his present property. Mr. Hazard is a Republican in politics, and has held several township offices. He and Mrs. Hazard are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and are respected by all who know them.
