William Jasper Liles, who is engaged in farming and stock raising, was born in Arkansas, July 2, 1849, and is the son of John and Arminta (Riggins) Liles, natives of Tennessee, who moved from Arkansas to Missouri and located in Barry County when their son, William J., was about five years old. Here the father carried on black-smithing at Granby until the late war, when he enlisted in the Confederate service. Our subject attained his growth in Missouri, and in 1870 moved to Newton County, where he has since remained. He here married Miss Virginia Marshall, the daughter of Carter and Martha (Isbell) Marshall, and the result of this union has been the birth of three children, two sons and one daughter, named as follows: John Marcellus, Willie and Della May. Mr. Liles is a successful farmer, and a well-respected citizen. He cultivates eighty acres in Section 19, and has thirty acres in timber. Mrs. Liles is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South.
