Below is a family biography included in The History of Newton County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Samuel Stansbury, a resident of Section 19, Franklin Township, Newton Co., Mo., was born in Laurel County, Ky., March 6, 1839, and is the son of William and Malinda (Stanberry) Stansbury, and the grandson of Solomon Stansbury, a native of England, and who was a black-smith by trade, and served all through the Revolutionary War under George Washington. Malinda Stanberry was the daughter of David and Rachel (Holman) Stanberry, the latter being a native of Scotland. In 1846 Samuel Stansbury removed with his parents to Douglas County, Mo., where he grew to manhood. In 1862 he went to Miller County, Mo., and here married Miss Eliza Jane Stapp, the daughter of David and Elizabeth (Henderson) Stapp, whose ancestors on both sides served in the Revolutionary War. The fruits of this union were one son and one daughter: Melcenia E. wife of John R. Blankenship) and Samuel Barton. Mr. Stansbury completed the black-smith trade, and in connection with this is engaged in tilling the soil. He served some time during the late war in the Federal army, and was a brave and gallant soldier. He has been a member of the school board of his district, and he and Mrs. Stansbury have been members of the Christian Church since 1867.
