Reuben T. Everhard is a descendant of an old German family whocame to America at a very early day. His great-grandfather, Jacob Everhard, came from Ellsworth, Penn., and settled in Wayne County, Ohio, in 1818, being one of the pioneer settlers of that county. Reuben T. Everhard was born in Medina County, Ohio, in 1846, and was reared on a farm, receiving a common school education. In August, 1864, he enlisted in Company C, Fifth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and served until the close of the war. He was with Sherman on his celebrated march to the sea, and was in all the skirmishes of that campaign. He was present at the famous grand review at Washington, and was mustered out at Louisville, Ky., and honorably discharged. In 1871 he was married to Jerusha M., daughter of John G. and Melissa (Garlick) McCathron, and by her is the father of two children: Guy H. and H. Clay, both of whom were born in Newton County, Mo. Mr. Everhard came to Missouri in 1866, took a homestead and has here since resided. He owns 840 acres of land, is one of the representative and prosperous citizens of the county, and it may be truly said of him that he is a self-made man. He is a Republican in politics.
