Pryor Lee McBee is of Irish-German descent, and is a grandson of Israel McBee, who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. The maternal grandfather, Joseph Yadon, was also in that war, coming from Ireland as a British soldier, and joining the American army under Washington. John McBee, the father of Pryor L. McBee, was born in Tennessee in 1790, and served in the War of 1812, under Capt. Hunter. He married Susie Yadon, a daughter of Joseph Yadon, and their union was blessed in the birth of seven children: Wesley, Campbell, Eliza, Pryor L., Silas, Granville and John, all of whom were born in Granger County, Tenn. The father was a wealthy farmer, owning 800 acres of land. He lived to be about seventy years of age, dying since the Civil War. Pryor Lee McBee was born in 1822, and was reared, educated and married in his native State. The latter event occurred in 1847, with Hulda Beebe, a daughter of Woolery Beebe. Seven children blessed their union: Angeline, Silas, John, James, Sarah, Nancy and Elizabeth. Since 1852 Mr. McBee has been a resident of Newton County, where he owns a farm of 280 acres well situated. In 1863 he enlisted in the cavalry service of the Confederate army under Marmaduke, and was a participant in many battles and skirmishes, becoming sergeant. After the close of the war he returned home, and has since followed the peaceful pursuit of farming. He is a Democrat in politics and a member of the Baptist Church.
