Below is a family biography included in The History of Newton County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Hon. Nicholas Krill, a prominent farmer, stock and fruit grower of Newton County, Mo., was born in Germany December 2, 1835. He is a son of Nicholas Krill and Mary Eva Kneller, the former being a cooper and brewer in his native land. Nicholas is the fifth of their six children. He came to the United States in 1849, living first in New Orleans and then in St. Louis, and again in New Orleans, and at the breaking out of the war he enlisted in the Thirty-first Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry at New Orleans, serving two years in Western Louisiana, being a participant in the battles of Port Hudson and Western Louisiana. After the war he went to Kansas, and after living there four years came to Newton County (1868), where he owns a good farm of 200 acres. In 1882 he was elected county judge from the Western District, and was re-elected in 1884, proving to be an able and efficient officer. March 81, 1858, was the date of his marriage with Louisa Eyer. She was born in Germany, and became the mother of seven children: Kate (wife of Christopher Bauer), Mary E. (wife of Fred Buschner), George W., Frank Josephus, Matilda, Rosa E. and Julia Bell.
