Below is a family biography included in The History of Newton County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

Milton L. Robb, farmer, and a descendant of one of the early settlers of Tennessee who had moved to that State from Kentucky, is of Scotch-Irish descent, and the son of John Robb, who went to Tennessee when a young man; was a boatman on the Ohio River, and married Miss Eliza Keys, of Tennessee. To them were born six children who lived to maturity: James, Sarah, Milton L., John F., Eliza J. and Martha L. Mr. Robb moved to Mississippi after marriage and remained there twelve years, when he went to Indiana on a visit, and there died at the house of his brother. He was a peculiar man, and, like Daniel Boone, had his coffin made a year before his death, and tried it to see if it would fit. He was a prosperous farmer and cabinet maker, and left an estate of about $9,000. His son, Milton L. Robb, was born in Dyersburg, Tenn. in 1835, and after the death of his father he went to Indiana, and from there to Illinois. In 1856 he married Miss Malissa J. Holliday, daughter of Elliot and Polly (Burk) Holliday, and to them were born three children, who lived to maturity; John E., James W. and Laura B. John E. married Miss Sarah Jones; James W. married Miss Clara Griffith, and Laura B. married Samuel H. Griffin. After marriage Mr. Robb resided in Illinois a short time, and then moved to Mississippi, but returned to Illinois two years later, where he owned a farm in Montgomery County. In 1867 Mr. Robb moved to Newton County, Mo., settled on his present farm, and was engaged in mercantile pursuits for eight years at Talmage, after which he returned to farming. Mr. Robb took the wise course of providing for his family in youth, and gave each of his sons a farm of eighty acres, his girl sixty acres, a good team, and set them up in housekeeping. He owns real estate in Peirce City, consisting of three houses and four lots. He is in comfortable circumstances, after providing for his children. In religious views Mr. and Mrs. Robb are Methodists, and Mr. Robb is a Republican in his political principles, He has held the office of township trustee and treasurer, and is a man of honest purpose and liberal ideas. His sons are men of excellent habits, and are doing well in life.
