John A. Rogers, junior member of the above named firm [Van Riper & Rogers], was born in Pawtucket, R. I., March 1, 1854, and is a son of John and Jane (McPherson) Rogers, natives of Ireland. John A. is the second of their ten children, and was reared in Peoria, Ill., whither his parents had removed in 1856. While there he learned the foundry business, and has since made that his life occupation. After working in various places until 1877 he came to Southwest Missouri, and in 1879 engaged with Mr. Van Riper in the foundry business, purchasing the plant of the Neosho Foundry Company. They have since been engaged in the business with a good degree of success, and have contributed a full share to the reputation Neosho has as a manufacturing center. Mr. Rogers was married in 1878 to Agnes Van Riper, a daughter of his partner. She war born in Brooklyn, Iowa, and is the mother of three children: Charles, Frank and Ellis.
