John A. Robertson, dealer in groceries and provisions at Granby, Mo., was born in Searcy County, Ark., September 8, 1839, and is a son of James and Mary (Davis) Robertson, who were Tennesseans, and moved to Arkansas at an early day. In 1840 they came to Newton County, Mo., but are now residents of Boone County, Ark. John A., who is the eldest of nine children, was reared in Newton County, and until the breaking out of the war followed the occupation of farming. He enlisted in the First Arkansas Cavalry, United States Army, and served over three years, operating principally in Arkansas. After the close of the war he returned to Newton County, and for over ten years followed the peaceful life of the agriculturist. In 1876 he began merchandising, and since that time has been numbered among the reliable business men of Granby. He is one of the old settlers of the county, and is identified with its prosperity and growth. His marriage with Miss Sarah E. Winchester took place October 13, 1858, and they have two children, James H. and John H. Mr. Robertson belongs to the Masonic fraternity, and is a member of the Baptist Church.
