Below is a family biography included in The History of Newton County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Rev. Jerry Hubbard is a native of Henry County, Ind., born April 7, 1837, and is the son of Joseph and Matilda (Johnson) Hubbard, natives of North Carolina and Virginia, respectively. The father died in 1883; the mother is still living, and is a resident of Jasper County, Mo. Her son, Jerry Hubbard, attained his growth in his native county, and was married at Richmond Ind. November 6, 1858, to Miss Mary G. Sheward, daughter of Dr. Sheward, of Philadelphia, Penn. In 1868 they moved West and located in Cherokee County, Kas.; he was there engaged for five years in teaching, and was also a minister of the gospel; from there his labors were transferred to Missouri. He moved to Indian Territory in 1879, and has since been engaged in missionary work among the tribes of the Quapaw Agency, and has done much toward bringing the tribes in the Agency up to their present moral standard. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard are the parents of ten children (five of whom are now living): Henrietta, Lucy (deceased), Erastus, William (deceased), Holten, Linnie (deceased), Edna, Harry, Josephine (deceased) and Blanche (deceased).
