Isaiah Robinson. For over twenty years Mr. Robinson has been a resident of Newton County, and one of her representative business men, contributing by his industry and intelligence to its growth and development and to its general advancement. Mr. Robinson was born in Washington County, Penn., April 27, 1837, and is the son of Hiram Robinson, a native of the same place, and Sarah (Zook) Robinson, who was also born in Pennsylvania, of German descent. Fourteen children were born to their marriage, seven now living, Isaiah being the fifth child and fourth son. He was reared on a farm, and followed agricultural pursuits, principally, until he came to this county. He lived in his native State until 1855, when he removed to Putnam County, Ill., and after remaining there one year moved to La Salle County, where he resided until the breaking out of the late war. He enlisted in Company C, First Regiment Illinois Artillery, and served for over three years, participating in the battles of Corinth, Nashville, Chattanooga, Murfreesboro and other battles. After being mustered out of the service he remained in Illinois until 1867, when he located in this county. Since coming here his time and attention have been devoted to the butchering business, in which he has been satisfactorily successful, and enjoys in an enviable degree the confidence of all with whom he has business relations. He had the misfortune to lose heavily by fire, but, Phoenix-like, there arose from the ashes buildings more substantial and attractive than before the calamity. Mr. Robinson has been twice married, the first time in September, 1867, to Miss Sarah Eagye, of Pennsylvania, who died in 1878. Five children resulted from this union, three of whom are now living: Delbert, Dora and Chancy. Mr. Robinson was married the second time to Miss Nettie J. Stewart, a native of Missouri, who bore him four children: Henry, Ada, Hiram and John.
