Isaac Gearhart is a descendant of an old family, who came from Georgia, and settled in Pennsylvania. His grandfather, John H. Gearhart, who was born and reared and who died in Pennsylvania, was a prosperous farmer, and gave each of his sons a good farm. George Gearhart, his son, and father of Isaac, was also born in Pennsylvania, and was married to Rebecca Peipher, by whom he became the father of three children: Polly, Isaac and Molly. He was a Republican in politics, and a member of the German Reformed Church. Isaac Gearhart was born on his father’s farm, in Lebanon County, Penn., in 1838, and received a common-school education. He was married to Catherine, daughter of David and Susan Mitts, and their union was blessed by the birth of four children: John. Albert. Isaac and Susan A. Mr. Gearhart farmed in Lebanon and Berks Counties, Penn., for ten years after his marriage, and then moved to Wayne County, Ohio, where he followed agricultural pursuits until 1884, when he located on a farm in Newton County, Mo. He is a Republican in his political views, and is a member of the Dunkard Church. He is a prosperous farmer, and an honest, law-abiding citizen.
