Henry C. McElhany. One of the remarkable and distinguished characteristics of our Western civilization is the number and prominence of comparatively young men in professional, official and business life. Men who, in older sections and under other conditions, would be but entering on the threshold of active life, are here found in the full meridian of success and usefulness. Henry C. McElhany is one of these rising and successful young business men. He was born in Newton County, Mo., June 20, 1857, and is the youngest of a family of four sons born to William and Nancy (Lewis) McElhany. He was reared to mercantile pursuits, and was for some time associated with his brother, John T., previous to engaging in his present business. He keeps a fine stock of clothing and gents’ furnishing goods, and has a large and remunerative trade. April 1, 1880, he was married to Johanna Roberts, who was born in Newton County, and is a daughter of Joshua and Carilla (Armstrong) Roberts, the former of whom was born in North Carolina, but for thirty-seven years has been a resident of Newton County. The latter is a native of Barry County, Mo.
