Below is a family biography included in The History of Newton County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. George W. Stansbury, another tiller of the soil, was born near Crab Orchard, Ky., September 19, 1845, and is the son of William and Melinda (Stanberry) Stansbury, of the same name but no relation, though on both sides the ancestry can be traced back to the early settlement of Virginia. William Stansbury, with he family, came to Missouri in 1846, located in Barry County, also lived for some time in Ozark County, but finally in 1872 he moved to McDonald County, where he died. His son, George W., grew up in Missouri, and moved to Newton County in 1874. He was married in Appanoose County, Iowa, where he lived eleven years. His choice of a wife was Miss Jemima Ross, daughter of John and Jemima (Hull) Ross, both natives of New Jersey, and two sons and five daughters have blessed this union, as follows: John William, Fannie, Tempah, Beulah, Frank, Grace, and one deceased, Rachel, buried in Rocky Comfort Cemetery. The family worship at the Baptist Church, of which Mr. and Mrs. Stansbury and two daughters are members.
