George McKendree Weems, secretary of Newton County Farmers’ Alliance and president of Newtonia Subordinate Alliance, was born in Greene County, Tenn., February 15, 1859, and is the son of John O. and Mary J. (Williams) Weems. He grew to manhood in his native county, and after spending two years in the Territories, located on his farm in Newtonia Township, Mo., in 1882, and here, in 1886, chose for his companion in life Miss Maggie E. Kenney, daughter of Joel N. and Martha (Gass) Kenney, who was born in the State of Tennessee. To this marriage two interesting children, both sons, have been born, Ray and Frank. After coming to Missouri and while in Tennessee Mr. Weems was for some time engaged in teaching school. He is now employed in farming, and is quite successful in this occupation, He is a member of the Masonic fraternity and of the I. O. O. F., and was one of the organizers of the Farmers’ Alliance.
