Below is a family biography included in The History of Newton County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. George Frank, a successful tiller of the soil, residing on Section 17, Franklin Township was born in Montgomery County, Ohio, January 16, 1829, and is the son of Matthew and Barbara (Loy) Frank. The father was a native of Herkimer County, N. Y., and the son of Lawrence Frank, who was also a native, of Herkimer County, and a soldier in the Revolutionary War. The Loys were of an old Maryland family. Matthew Frank in his youth learned the boot and shoe making business, and while yet a young man went to Ohio, where he married Miss Loy, and reared a family of four sons and two daughters, of whom George Frank is the second. Our subject attained his growth in his native State, adopting the black-smith trade as his chief occupation during life, and he has also followed agricultural pursuits to some extent. While in Ohio he met and married Miss Susan Duckwall, of Montgomery County, that State, and the daughter of Henry and Rosana (Lingenfelder) Duckwall, natives of Virginia. In 1869 Mr. Frank moved to Newton County, Mo., where he reared three sons: Clayton W., who is a black-smith by trade, and is living at Waterloo, Kas.; Ed E., a substantial farmer of Newtonia Township, and Jesse J., of Franklin Township. Those deceased, a son and daughter, and who are buried in Mercer County, Ohio, where their father lived several years before moving to Missouri, were named Florence and Millard F. Mr. Frank has served on the school board of his district, also as justice of the peace in Ohio for nine years, and is a member of the I. O. O. F. He and his wife have been members of the Methodist Episcopal Church before and since their marriage.
