Below is a family biography included in The History of Newton County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Gabriel Hutchison is a son of William Hutchison, who was born in Tennessee, and married Nancy Wright, also of Tennessee. They moved to Newton County, Mo., in 1836, and located on the farm on which their son Gabriel now lives. The father, who was a Democrat and a member of the Regular Baptist Church, died in 1885, at the age of seventy-eight years. He was a prosperous farmer, and at the time of his death owned 320 acres of land. The names of his children arc as follows: Daniel, John (deceased), Mary (Mrs. Farren), Sanford (deceased), Charles (deceased), Thomas (who was killed near Independence and was in the Confederate army), Gabriel and Frances (Mrs. B. F. Wygant). Gabriel Hutchison was born on the old homestead in 1846, and was reared on a farm. He was married to Elizabeth, daughter of Elijah Barker, and by her is the father of three children: Tucher, Ida and Byrd. Mr. Hutchison affiliates with the Democratic party, is a prosperous farmer, and is the owner of 160 acres of the old homestead. He has spent his life quietly on his farm, and is an honest and law-abiding citizen.
