Elisha J. Walker is a son of John S. Walker, and a grandson of James Walker, the latter being one of the early and prosperous farmers of Wayne County, Ky., where John S. Walker was born and reared, and where he married Sarah Ryan. They were the parents of fourteen children, eleven of whom lived to maturity: Polly A., Elisha J., Henry T., Joseph, John, Harry, Moses, Martha E., Elizabeth, Jane and Abraham. In 1854 Mr. Walker took up his abode in Missouri, settling in Benton Township, Newton County, where he is now a prosperous farmer. He owns 112 acres of land, and all his property has been made by his own efforts. At the breaking out of the war he enlisted in the Fourteenth, Company H, Missouri State Militia, United States Army, but was transferred to Company M, Eighth Regiment, serving thirteen months. He was a participant in the battle of Neosho, and a number of severe skirmishes.
