Eli Hawk, farmer on Sections 21 and 16, Newtonia Township, was born in Jackson County, Ohio, January 9, 1839, and is a son of Abraham and Diana (Taylor) Hawk, and the grandson of Jacob Hawk, who was the son of a German who settled in Virginia prior to the Revolutionary War. Abraham and Diana (Taylor) Hawk were both natives of Virginia, where they were reared and where they married. Their son Eli grew to manhood in his native State, and at the breaking out of the late war enlisted in the Union army, serving nearly four years. After the war he went to Illinois, and spent three years there in Shelby County, after which, in 1869, he moved to Newton County, Mo., where he has since remained. While in Ohio he married Miss Sarah E. Allen, daughter of Benjamin and Naomi (Stavens) Allen. To our subject and wife were born three sons and one daughter: John M., Charles D., Dora C. and Holly F. Mr. Hawk is a charter member of the Cedar Bluff Farmers’ Alliance, and has 160 acres of well-improved land. He and his wife are attendants at the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and she is a member of the same.
