Delevin Markey, the senior member of the firm of Markey & Moore, dealers and workers in marble and iron railings at Neosho, Mo., was born in St. Louis, Mo., January 30, 1854, and is a son of Peter and Margaret (Hurst) Markey, who were born in Ireland and immigrated to the United States, locating in St. Louis. Delevin, who is the eldest of their six children, was reared in his native county, and then went with his parents to Livingston County, Mo., where he grew to maturity. He learned the marble cutter’s trade and after attaining his majority returned to St. Louis, and worked in that city and other places until 1880, when he settled in Neosho, and here the above named firm was organized. They have a good trade in this and surrounding counties, and fully deserve the success that has attended their efforts. Mr. Markey has been closely identified with the interests of the city, and is serving his second term as a member of the city council, and is also president of the board. He was married October 13, 1883, to Emma Leeper, of Chillicothe, Mo., and by her is the father of two children living: Andrew L. and Frederick H. They had another son, Francis, now deceased.
