Curtis Sparlin is a farmer of Newton County, and was born in Holmes County, Ohio, January 4, 1826, being the eldest of the ten children of Andrew and Elizabeth (Spurgeon) Sparlin. He came with his parents to Newton County, and spent his boyhood days on a farm, and is now the owner of 174 acres of fertile and well-tilled land. He was married February 11, 1847, to Judy Blankenship, and by her is the father of six children: John W., Cynthia A. (wife of M. Cole), Delilah (wife of J. C. Chitword), Isom, Andrew and Tennessee C. The youngest son, Andrew, was born in Newton County, December 23, 1865, and has always followed the occupation of farming. He was married December 7, 1887 to Ida Holmes, who was born in Hamilton County, Ill., and is a daughter of Benjamin F. and Sarah M. (Upchurch) Holmes, of Tennessee. The Sparlin family are old and prominent settlers of the county. Andrew Sparlin, Sr., named Lost Creek, this county, from the fact that he became lost near it, and slept all night on its banks, while endeavoring to make his way to Arkansas to join his family, which he had left there, previous to his removal to this State.
