Barton J. Morrow, postmaster at Neosho, Mo., was born in Tennessee, September 18, 1841, and is a son of Dr. W. I. I. Morrow, of East Tennessee, who came to Missouri in 1851, as an Indian agent to the Quapaw Agency, under the appointment of President Fillmore. Barton J., who is the fifth child in his father’s family, was reared principally in Newton County, ten years of his life being spent on a farm. He then clerked in the office of circuit clerk for his father, and was afterward elected circuit clerk and recorder of deeds three terms in succession. After retiring from office he engaged in mining operations, and was appointed postmaster of Neosho by President Cleveland, in May 1888. He has been twice married, the first time in 1865, to Judith Hewitt, who was born in Virginia, in 1849, and died in Newton County, February 17, 1880, leaving three children: George, Barton and Isabella. Mr. Morrow’s second marriage occurred in 1880 with Mrs. Olive Anderson, whose maiden name was Hickox. She was born and reared in Newton County, and by Mr. Morrow is the mother of two children, David and Annie. Mr. Morrow is a member of the A. O. U. W., and is a representative citizen of the county.
