Amos Morrill Carter was born in Caledonia County, Vt., May 29, 1837, and is the son of Jeremiah and Emaline (Hull) Carter, both natives of Vermont. In 1853 the father removed to Arkansas, and settled in Sebastian County, where Amos M. grew to manhood. In 1864 the latter came to Missouri, and there spent four years, two each in Greene and Christian Counties. In 1809 our subject returned to Arkansas, and here remained until 1875, when he sold out his farm in that State, moved to Newton County, Mo., and here purchased eighty acres of land, to which he has since added 120, making in all 200 acres. While in Sebastian County, Ark., Mr. Carter married Miss Evaline J. Morrow, daughter of Benjamin F. and Eliza (Ward) Morrow, natives of Tennessee, and this union has been blessed by four sons and six daughters: Eliza Emaline (wife of Benjamin Duvall, and a graduate of Peirce City Baptist College), Mary Angeline (also a graduate of Peirce City Baptist College, and a school teacher), Eugene S. Grant (who died in Arkansas); Jerome, Pinky, Minnie May, Carlie, Amy and Bernice.
