Wilson H. Jobe, hardware merchant of Clarksburg, was born in Cole County, Mo., in 1836, near the present site of Clarksburg. His parents, Bartholomew and Mary (Williams) Jobe, were natives of Tennessee, and both were born in 1806. The father was but five years of age when he came to Missouri, and settled in Scott County; later removing with his parents to the present site of California, he was married there, and became the father of seven children, five daughters and two sons: Alvin P., Wilson H., Susan, Minnie, Jane, Adaline and Margaret. The daughters died of consumption within four years of each other. The mother of these children died in 1849 or 1850, and the father afterward married Mrs. (Yarnell) Gamble, widow of Robert Gamble, who bore him two children: Taylor and Henry. Mr. Jobe died March 5, 1885. Mary (Williams) Jobe, mother of our subject, was the daughter of James Williams, a native of Tennessee. Mr. Williams was a farmer by occupation, and came to Missouri at an early day, and died in Putnam County in 1887, at the age of one hundred and five years. He was the father of a large family, consisting of many daughters and one son. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Wilson H. Jobe attained his majority in Moniteau County, received a good practical education, and remained at home until twenty-three years of age, with the exception of three years spent in Illinois, during the years 1865, 1866, 1867. He returned to the home place in 1868, and there remained until he came to Clarksburg, September 5, 1884. Since then he has been engaged in the hardware business, and has been quite successful. He was married December 24, 1861, to Miss Louisa, daughter of Jesse Parks. She was born in Greene County, Ill., in 1841, and by her marriage became the mother of four children: Jessie, Minnie, Jennie, wife of W. A. Bruce, and an infant daughter (deceased). Mr. and Mrs. Jobe are members of the Baptist Church, and he is a Democrat in politics.
