William George, a native of Moniteau County, was born April 20, 1851, and is the youngest of six children born to Rufus and Prudence (McGirk) George, who were Tennesseeans. The father came to Cooper County, Mo., when a boy, and later in life located in Moniteau County, where he purchased a partly improved farm, and spent the remainder of his days. His wife is yet living, and makes her home with her son. William aided his father in clearing the home farm, and at the age of twenty-one years embarked on the sea of life for himself, and was married in Cole County, in 1880, to Miss Sidney Elizabeth McKinney, and located on the home farm, where he resided until 1877, when he traded with his brother for his present farm of 195 acres. He has about ninety acres improved and under cultivation, and gives considerable attention to stock-raising, his cattle, hogs and sheep being of good breed. He is a Democrat, and he and wife are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. They are the parents of three living children: John Franklin, Delora Ellen and Granville Houston. One child died in infancy. Mrs. George’s parents, Nelson and Nancy (Mode) McKinney, were born in Tennessee, and were among the pioneers of Cole County. The father is now dead, but the mother still resides in Cole County.
