Below is a family biography included in The History of Moniteau County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

William F. Winebrenner is a native of West Virginia, his birth occurring in Monroe County in 1847. His parents, Michael and Mary Ann (Foster) Winebrenner, were also born in the “Old Dominion,” the father being of German descent. They spent their lives in West Virginia, the father dying in 1864, at the age of fifty-seven years, and the mother in 1879, at the age of fifty-five years. He served in the Confederate army two years during the late war. Nine of their twelve children are living: Sarah F., William F., Lewis, Samuel N., Robert H., Thomas M., Margeret, Eliza J. and Mary. Those deceased are: Calvin, James and an infant. William F. Winebrenner attended school until twelve years of age, then worked at farm labor until twenty-two years old, and in the meantime served one year in the Confederate army during the Rebellion. In 1869 he came to Missouri with an uncle, and for some time worked out by the month. In 1870 he had his foot badly cut, and was laid up for about four months, and after being able to get about began working for E. Stinson, and worked several months, and then rented his farm, and in the coming spring he was married to Miss Cordelia Stinson in 1871. She was born in Moniteau County, and is the mother of five children: Maggie M., John A., William G., Elmer O., Sadie G. After marriage Mr, Winebrenner purchased eighty-seven acres of land, and now has a good farm of 200 acres under cultivation, all of which is the result of his own energy and perseverance. He and wife are members of the Baptist Church, and he is a Democrat politically, and is a liberal contributor to schools and churches.
