Peter Herfurth, of the firm of Herfurth & Wegener, manufacturers of wagons, spring wagons and implements of all kinds, was born in Moniteau County, Mo., November 28, 1852, and is the son of C. A. Herfurth, a native of Germany, who settled here about 1845, and is now residing near California. He was married here to Miss Elizabeth Waltersheide, also a native of Germany. Peter Herfurth grew to mature years in Moniteau County, and learned his trade there. He went to California in 1875, spent two years in that State, working at his trade, and then returned in 1878. He started a blacksmith and wagon shop previous to going to California, but sold this out, and after returning he started another shop, and has carried on a wagon and repair shop with success ever since. The present firm was established in 1887; they employ about three hands, and are wide-awake, thorough-going business men. Mr. Herfurth was married here March 4, 1878, to Miss Louisa Hugelmann, a native of Kentucky, but who was reared in this State. They have three children: Carrie, Emma and Otto. Mr. and Mrs. Herfurth are members of the Catholic Church.
