Michael Copp, a fruit-grower and farmer of Linn Township, Moniteau County, was born in Washington County, E. Tenn., in 1824, and is a son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Tittman) Copp, also natives of Tennessee. Michael was an only child, and lived at home until about twenty years of age. His father died when he was but eighteen months old, and his mother subsequently married the second time, by which marriage she had several children; she died October 12, 1868. Our subject was reared on a farm, and in 1842 removed to Missouri, first locating in Cooper County, where he rented land for several years, and was also employed at Conner’s Mill. He afterward purchased land on an island opposite Linn Township, but an overflow obliged him to abandon the same, and in 1868 he purchased the land upon which he now lives, which is part bottom-land, and has a good farm under cultivation. He has one of the finest orchards in the county, in which he deservedly takes a great deal of pride, and which he devotes to the cultivation of only the best fruits. In 1844 Mr. Copp married Elizabeth Rimel, who was born in Eastern Tennessee in 1824, and when ten years old removed with her parents to Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Copp have no children. Both are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, which church Mr. Copp joined in 1852, and his wife at the age of seventeen; they take an active part in all church work, and are enterprising people. He saw service during the late war, and participated in the battle fought at Boonville, Mo.
