Below is a family biography included in The History of Moniteau County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. L. B. Apperson, proprietor of the city livery barn, at California, Mo., was born in Greene County, Mo., April 25, 1850, being one of three surviving members of a family of nine children born to the marriage of James Milton Apperson and Elizabeth Permelia Nowlin, daughter of Bryan T. Nowlin; the father was born in Overton County Tenn., and the mother in Cooper County, Mo. The grandparents Apperson were natives of Surry County, N. C., and grandparents Nowlin of Logan County, Ky. In 1820 James M. Apperson immigrated to Missouri with his parents, settling in Cooper County, where he lived until 1838, then moving to Greene County, Mo. He was married October 3, 1839, and afterward engaged in farming near Spring field, Mo., until 1856, when he moved to Moniteau County, and was occupied in the livery business until his death, May 22, 1874. His widow is still living. Lilburn B. Apperson was reared and educated in Moniteau County, and from early boyhood has been familiar with the livery business. After the death of his father, he assumed management of his establishment, which he has successfully conducted to the present time. His barn is commodious, and he keeps about sixteen head of good horses, and an excellent line of carriages and buggies. He has been identified with the county’s interests since boyhood, and has shown his brotherly spirit by becoming a member of the I. O. O. F., A. O. U. W., Select Knights and Masonic fraternity. In 1876 he wedded Miss Sarah I. Meredith, a native of Moniteau County, and a daughter of Archibald Meredith, by whom he has four children: Emma Gertrude, Edwin Lewis, Sarah Levra, Joseph Lilburn. He and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South.
