Jacob Haldeman, a farmer of Linn Township, Moniteau County, was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, in 1841, and is a son of John and Margaret (Baller) Haldeman, natives of Switzerland, the former born in 1808 and the latter in 1801. John Haldeman was a shoe maker by trade, and with his family immigrated to America in 1832, locating on a farm in Ohio, whence they removed to Missouri in 1854. They had nine children, two of whom, John and Margaret, both now deceased, were born in Switzerland; those living are: Jacob, Christ, Mary, wife of Jacob Dahler; Fritz, and Catherine, wife of Thomas Kirschman. During the late war he served three months in the Missouri State Militia, and in 1861 he married Mary Ann Roesch, who was born in Switzerland in 1842, and came to America with her parents in 1851. Mr. and Mrs. Haldeman are the parents of twelve children, viz.: Mary, wife of G. Mr. Haldeman lives on the farm his father settled in 1854, which is one of the best in Linn Township.
