Below is a family biography included in The History of Moniteau County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. J. P. Fischer, dealer in drugs, books, stationery, groceries, etc., established his business in February, 1886, and has been a resident of Moniteau County for thirty-three years. He was born in Prussia, Germany, in 1848, and is the son of John and Katharina (Tillman) Fischer, also natives of Prussia. The father was a nail manufacturer in the old country. He came to this country at an early date, and is now a resident of Tipton, Mo. J. P. Fischer was reared on the farm, and at the age of twenty-three years he commenced for himself by renting a farm, and this he continued for three years. He then purchased a farm of 160 acres of improved land, farmed five years, after which he sold out and bought another farm, remaining on the same for three years. He then came to Tipton, invested in real estate and engaged in the saloon business, which he followed for three years, and then established his present business in February, 1886. He is a member of the Catholic Church. He has always taken an active part in the welfare of his locality. He was married at the age of twenty-three to Miss Elizabeth Weingertner, a native of Moniteau County, and the fruits of this union are four children: Henrietta, Bertha, Herman A. and Edward J.
