Hilliard H. Hudson (deceased) was born in Simpson County, Ky., March 17, 1821, and was a son of Richard and Elizabeth (Harris) Hudson, natives of North Carolina and Kentucky, respectively. Richard Hudson went to Kentucky after reaching his maturity, in search of a home, and settled in Simpson County. He was married in Madison County, where his wife was born in 1800, and they returned to Simpson County, where they lived until 1825. They then went to Missouri, settling on a farm in Boone County, where they spent the remainder of their lives, Richard dying in 1845, at the age of fifty-seven years, and his wife in 1847. To them were born thirteen children, nine of whom are still living. Hilliard H. was but four years of age when his parents moved to Missouri, where he was reared and educated. Before the war he was elected county judge of Moniteau County, and held the office of justice of the peace fifteen or twenty years. In 1874 he was elected to represent Moniteau County in the State Legislature, and was an active member of the House, laboring for the best interests of his constituents and the welfare of the State. He settled in Moniteau County in 1845, upon the place where his widow still lives. He held membership in the Baptist Church, of which he was a deacon and to which he gave liberally. He was also a Master Mason. His death occurred July 27, 1881, and the township lost not only an enterprising farmer, but an honored resident, for whom they sincerely mourned. March 14, 1844, Mr. Hudson married Eliza, daughter of Owen and Mary (Kennard) Boggs. She was born in Madison County, Ky., in 1825, and came to Missouri with her parents in 1829. They remained one year in Callaway County, and then located in Boone County, where the father died in 1854, and the mother June 22, 1881. Of the twelve children born to Mr. and Mrs. Hudson eight are living, viz.: Andrew J., Richard M., Owen B., Alexander, Mary, Fannie, Eliza and Amanda; those deceased were James, Thomas, Hensley and an infant. The mother and children are all members of the Baptist Church.
